Australia’s Next Top Model judges Didier Cohen, Charlotte Dawson and Alex Perry with Holmesville-raised Jennifer Hawkins as Host. Australia’s Next Top Model, which premieres on Tuesday July 9 on Foxtel.FRESH from her honeymoon, Holmesville-raised Jennifer Hawkins returns to television tonight in what she describes as a “big sister role” on Australia’s Next Top Model.
The new host of the reality television show will join judges Charlotte Dawson, Alex Perry and Didier Cohen to select the next fashion star from 50 young contestants.
Hawkins, who will celebrate 10 years next year since she won the Miss Universe beauty pageant in Ecuador, remembers what it was like to try and break into the Australian modelling industry.
“You can never compare two different lives but I understand they’re going through a stressful time,” Hawkins said.
“I wanted to be sensitive and caring and take on a big sister role.”
Hawkins is feeling relaxed after returning from her wedding to Jake Wall in Bali and the couple’s month-long honeymoon to Paris, Singapore and the Maldives.
“Life is definitely better,” she said of being married to her long-time love.
“I feel really content.”
The eighth season of Top Model opens with the 50 budding models shipped out to one of Australia’s oldest and most recognisable former prisons – Cockatoo Island on Sydney Harbour.
They then take part in a gruelling boot camp where the group is reduced, through a series of eliminations, to the final 15 contestants.
“I can’t say that’s my favourite part,” Hawkins said of the eliminations.
“You know what these girls are feeling and you see it in their eyes. I gave them lots of big hugs.”
Hawkins is no stranger to television. Her previous hosting gigs included Make Me a Supermodel and The Great Outdoors .
Australia’s Next Top Model screens on Fox 8 from 7.30pm tonight.
